Partial overhead signage as the ramp to Woodward Avenue departs from Eight Mile Road to the right. This interchange was constructed long before the construction of I-696, at a time when Eight Mile Road was the only major east-west thoroughfare through Northern Detroit. |

This view looks easterly as Eight Mile Road dives to the lowest level of a three level interchange that carries M-102 under Woodward Avenue. This interchange was completed in 1956 and was fully restored in 2006/2007. Careful attention was placed on ensuring that the historic elements of this historic cross-over were maintained during the rehabilitation and reconstruction. Note the ornamental lamp posts, and restored galvanized steel railings. |

Easterly view as M-102 passes underneath of the Canadian National (CN) Railway between Woodward Avenue and I-75. M-102 passes underneath of the CN Railway via two massive four-lane underpasses. The eastbound structure is considerably newer than the westbound structure. |

Another easterly view, this time approaching the Interstate 75 interchange. Eight Mile Road crosses I-75 in similar fashion to how it crosses Woodward Avenue. This time Eight Mile Road finds itself on the highest of the three levels. The separation of all turning traffic from through traffic aids vehicle throughput considerably. |

Easterly view, in rush hour traffic, as M-102 descends back to ground level from the I-75 overpass. The Eight Mile Road streetscape is about as ugly as streetscapes come. Detroit is no Paris. Eight Mile Road was designed to carry automobile traffic efficiently -- and for nothing else. |

This easterly view along Eight Mile Road is fairly non-descript. This photo is intended to highlight the streetscape of Eight Mile Road. The 8 Mile Business Association (8MBA) has launched a project for the revitalization and enhancement of the businesses along the 8 Mile Road Corridor. This is a commendable undertaking, though the business association has their work cut out for them. |
