KING`S HIGHWAY NO. 401

Southwestern Ontario

Looking east at the western terminus of Highway 401/eastern terminus of Highway 3B at Howard Avenue in Windsor. Although the signage indicates "Highway 401 - London/Toronto", I am not sure if this is 3 km stretch of freeway was officially part of Highway 401, or if it was an unsigned continuation of Highway 3B. If you look at a map of Windsor, you will see the confusing dual terminii of Highway 401, one with Highway 3B and one with Highway 3. May of 1993.

UPDATE: Here`s an explanation about the confusing western termini of Highway 401 in Windsor.
1 km advance signage for St. Joachim Road located on westbound Highway 401 in northern Essex County. May of 1993.
Shot of the overhead exit signage for Highway 77 and Essex Road 35 located on westbound Highway 401 near the Town of Comber. May of 1993.
1 km advance signage for Highway 77 located on westbound Highway 401. Interestingly, there is no mention of Essex Road 35, unlike on the exit signage. May of 1993.
Exit signage for Furnival Road located on eastbound Highway 401 in western Elgin County. May of 1993.
1 km advance signage for Furnival Road located on eastbound Highway 401 in western Elgin County. May of 1993.
Exit signage located on westbound Highway 401 at the Highway 402 split, just south of London. Looks like Stevie Wonder drew the outlines for those crowns. May of 1993.
Advance signage for Highway 403 located on eastbound Highway 401 near the town of Woodstock. This older signage was still in place until very recently (perhaps 2007) when it replaced with the more modern standard. May of 1993.
Ground mounted exit signage for Highway 6 SOUTH located on westbound Highway 401 just south of the City of Guelph. Wellington Road 46, which also is accessible via this interchange, represents a former alignment of Highway 6 into downtown Guelph, prior to its rerouting along the Hanlon Parkway in the early 1980s. May of 1994.
