QUEEN ELIZABETH WAY

1981: NIAGARA

Sign advising motorists that they are now entering Niagara Falls city limits. Not sure if this is located on the Toronto-bound or Fort Erie-bound QEW. Summer of 1981.
Looking Toronto-bound on the QEW just west of the Highway 405 junction. It's hard to tell but I think that's a Highway 405 ENDS reassurance marker on the right. Summer of 1981.
Looking Toronto-bound on the QEW approaching the Highway 55 interchange in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Summer of 1981.

1981: METRO TORONTO & PEEL

Overpass under construction on the QEW in the Summer of 1981. Not sure of the street, but this could be located Mississauga or Oakville. Summer of 1981.
Nice shot of the gantry located on Hamilton-bound QEW at the Highway 10 interchange in Mississauga. I'm not sure if this was an aberration, or if it was typical back in the 70s and 80s, but usually on a sign when the King's Highway crown and street name represent the same roadway, the crown is located to the left of the street name, not above it. Summer of 1981.
Looking west along Hamilton-bound QEW, roughly about 400 metres east of the Cawthra Road overpass. Summer of 1981.
A close-up shot of the Dixie Road overpass from the Hamilton-bound QEW in Mississauga. Although it's undergone some rehabilitation work since 1981, the basic bridge structure remains unchanged to this date. Summer of 1981.
Looking west along Hamilton-bound QEW approximately 300 metres east of the Dixie Road overpass in Mississauga. Notice the vintage c. 1950s DHO lighting to the right. In 1981, this type of lighting was probably analagous to what truss lighting is in 2010. A dying breed. Summer of 1981.
Hamilton-ound QEW looking west at Etobicoke Creek towards the Dixie Road interchange in Mississauga. Summer of 1981.
Facing west along Hamilton-bound QEW near the West Mall/Evans Avenue interchange. Summer of 1981.
Looking west along the Hamilton-bound QEW just west of the Highway 427 interchange in Etobicoke. Evans Avenue overpass in the background. Summer of 1981.
Toronto-bound QEW express lanes at the Islington Avenue overpass in Etobicoke. Sorry about the quality of some of these pictures. Summer of 1981.
Toronto-bound QEW express lanes facing east towards Downtown Toronto approaching the Royal York Road overpass. The CN Tower is faintly visible in the distance. Summer of 1981.
Looking Toronto-bound on the QEW from the Royal York Road overpass in Etobicoke. Summer of 1981.
Overhead gantry located on the Toronto-bound QEW in Etobicoke indicating the impending end of the QEW at Highway 2/Gardiner Expressway. Summer of 1981.
Facing east along the Toronto-bound QEW at the Grand Avenue overpass. I wish there was a clearer shot of that overhead advance signage for Lake Shore Blvd. in the background. Interesting that some type of text is used in lieu of an arrow. Summer of 1981.
