Eastbound signage notifying motorists that Stanley Avenue is final eastbound
exit before the USA. For much of the history of Highway 405, eastbound
traffic could exit at the Niagara Parkway just before the Queenston-Lewiston
Bridge. The interchange at the Niagara Parkway was removed in the mid
2000s as part of an expansion project at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge. Photo taken: June 2nd, 2015. |

Advanced signage for Stanley Avenue. Presently, Stanley Avenue is the
only interchange for the entire length of Highway 405. Prior to 2004,
Highway 405 also had an interchange with the Niagara Parkway. Access
to the Parkway was closed in both directions as part of border improvements
at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge. Photos taken: June 2nd, 2015 |

This view looks easterly approaching the Stanley Avenue overpass.
Stanley Avenue crosses Highway 405 via an industrial looking steel girder
bridge typical of its early 1960s design. A pedestrian sidewalk was
cantilevered out from the western facade of the bridge during a
rehabilitation project that took place during 2006 and 2007. Photo taken: July 30th, 2011. |

Looking east along Highway 405 from the Stanley Avenue overpass. Notice
the eastbound (right) carriageway has an extra (third lane) over the
westbound carriageway. This is a truck climbing lane, to separate slow
trucks climbing the Niagara Escarpment from higher speed traffic.
Ahead, this climbing lane defaults off from the mainline 405 lanes into the
Truck Customs Facilities. Photo taken: July 30th, 2011. |
