KING`S HIGHWAY NO. 427

1981

Advance signage for the core to collector slip ramp located on nortbound Highway 427 near Highway 5/Dundas Street in Etobicoke. Here you see some of the MTC's changing signage standards between 1981 and 1989. Summer of 1981.
Looking north along the northbound Highway 427 express lanes near the Bloor Street overpass in Etobicoke. Summer of 1981.
Looking north along the northbound Highway 427 express lanes near the Burnhamthorpe Road overpass in Etobicoke. As I mentioned in the 1989 set, it's fairly unusual to have the the name of a King's highway displayed in text rather than in a crown graphic. Summer of 1981.
Very nice panoramic view of Highway 427. looking south towards the Burnhamthorpe Road interchange. Aside from a few minor alterations to the signage, this is exactly what the 427 looked like up until a few years ago (c. 2004). Once the massive rehabilitations to the 427 are completed over the next several years, it'll likely be unrecognizable from this photo. Summer of 1981.
Here's a gantry located on Westbound Eglinton Avenue at the Highway 27/401/427 interchange in Etobicoke. Notice the lack of reference to Highway 427 NORTH in this gantry. Also, notice the second gantry, blurred in the background, that seems to have a text only sign where the Highway 427 northbound onramp is today. Airport Expressway maybe? Summer of 1981.
