Content: Averill Hecht
Averill Hecht was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA., USA. From an early age, Averill had a keen interest in highway infrastructure, especially traffic control devices. This interest paved the way (pun intended) for him to pursue his education in traffic engineering, earning a masters degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1996. Also blossoming from Averill's love of all things related to highways is the 30 years worth of highway photos he has authored. The location of the highways featured in these photos span the width and length of the North American continent, from British Columbia to Florida to California and Quebec. Of couse, it goes without saying that Averill also possesses a large collection of Ontario highway photos, for which this site is dedicated to.

I'm Michael Sgambelluri, webmaster of vintagekingshighways.com. My role in regards to this website is actually quite fun. Although a little expensive to maintain, the technical aspects of running a website aren't that challenging at all. In any case, the pleasure of getting to pour over all of Averill's wonderful photos, and in the process get taken back to the Ontario of 20 years ago and beyond far outweigh any of the costs. It's hard to point to where my obsession about Ontario's King's Highway system sprung from. It's probably at least partially rooted in the memories of going on roadtrips across southern Ontario with my family as a young boy. Now that I'm older and those roadtrips are long gone, viewing these photos provides a nostalgic blast from the past.
