City of Kawartha Lakes Looking south along the Lindsay By-pass across the Scugog River Bridge.  In 2010, the Scugog River Bridge was reconstructed and widened to support a four-lane cross-section.  Construction was tentatively scheduled to start in 2012 on a project that would have seen Highway 7/35 widened to four lanes along the Lindsay By-pass between County Road 4 and Highway 36.  Work on this project has been deferred due to budget constraints.

City of Kawartha Lakes Two views of the northern side of the Scugog River bridge.  The Scugog River is a navigable waterway that links Lake Scugog to the Trent-Severn Waterway by way of a single lock in Lindsay.

City of Kawartha Lakes Northerly view towards the Scugog River bridge.  The Scugog River Bridge was widened in 2010 to its current four lane cross-section.  The 1950s era bridge deck was completely replaced as part of this construction.

City of Kawartha Lakes Westerly view as Highway 7/35 nears the structure that carries the highway over the former alignment of CN's railway alignment between Lindsay and Toronto (via Uxbridge).  The railway was abandoned in 1991 and is now a rail trail.

City of Kawartha Lakes Junction assembly for the western Highway 7/7B/35 junction.  At this junction, Highway 35 departs the Lindsay Bypass heading towards Lindsay before traffic must again turn to head further north towards Fenelon Falls.

City of Kawartha Lakes Junction assembly for the northbound Highway 7B/35 split.  Highway 7B continues easterly into Downtown Lindsay.  Highway 35 on the other hand continues northerly bound for Fenelon Falls, Minden and Dorset.

City of Kawartha Lakes This view looks easterly along Kent Street at the Kent Street railway overhead.  The vintage steel railings of the Kent Street overhead were replaced with new steel railings in 2011.  Click here for this same view taken in April 2009 when the structure had its 1950s era railings.

City of Kawartha Lakes View looking northwesterly through the Kent Street overhead.  The tracks that formerly passed beneath the Kent Street overhead have long been removed.  While Lindsay is no longer served by any rail lines, it was once a hub for the Grand Truck Railway with railways radiating in six directions from the community.

City of Kawartha Lakes Looking southerly on Highway 35 as it nears the Highway 7B/35B junction.  At this junction, to continue southbound along Highway 35, travelers must follow the ramp to the right, following Highway 7B's alignment for 800m before meeting Highway 7 at the Lindsay By-pass.

City of Kawartha Lakes A second northerly view from Kent Street in Lindsay.  There are two signalized intersections on Highway 35 north of Kent Street.  The first is at Colborne Street, and the second is at Thunder Bridge Road.

City of Kawartha Lakes View looking northerly from the Killarney Bay Road intersection.  Pictured in this photo is the southbound passing lane between Cameron and Lindsay.  Passing lanes are frequent on more northern segments of Highway 35, but are noticeably absent on southern sections of highway.

City of Kawartha Lakes View looking northerly approaching the Highway 121 intersection at Powles Corners.  Highway 121 was moved to a new northern alignment during a 2011/12 construction project.  The old alignment of Highway 121 was by-passed because it met a township road in extremely close proximity to the Highway 35 intersection.

Highway 121 runs northerly roughly parallel to Highway 35 through Fenelon Falls and Kinmount before re-joining Highway 35 south of Minden.  Click here for Highway 121 images.
City of Kawartha Lakes Northerly view at the Powles Corners.  Unlike the signage seems to indicate, Kawartha Lakes Road 121 (formerly Highway 121) is not also known as Kawartha Lakes Road.

City of Kawartha Lakes View looking northerly approaching the eastern Kawartha Lakes Road 8 junction.  Between Highways 35 and 121, Kawartha Lakes Road 8 was formerly designated as Highway 35A.  During that time, Kawartha Lakes (then Victoria County) Road 8 was discontinuous between Highway 35 and Highway 121 at Fenelon Falls.

City of Kawartha Lakes View looking northerly along Highway 35 from the former Highway 35A junction.  The ramp from Highway 35A to Highway 35 north has a lengthy speed change lane in order to accommodate a high volume of merging traffic.  Highway 35 carries considerably more traffic during the summer months than it does during the remainder of the year.  (This photo was obviously taken outside of the peak travel season).

City of Kawartha Lakes Two views looking southerly along Highway 35 approaching the Highway 35A intersection.  Note the green signs indicate County Road 8 as Victoria Road.  These signs were never updated to reflect Victoria County's new single tier identity as the city of Kawartha Lakes.  In 2001 Victoria County and all of its component municipalities were amalgamated to form the single tier City of Kawartha Lakes.

City of Kawartha Lakes Northbound advanced signage for Glenarm Road.  The rounded corners of this sign indicate its older vintage.  In 2012, when these photos were taken, Highway 35 was built to an older standard that lacked partially paved shoulders.  In general, new highways haven't been built like this since before the early 1990s.
